Founder & CIO



Hendra Soetjahja is the Investment Officer of Kilohana. Prior to founding the company, he was a principal in a team that managed $3.8 billion aggregate assets at J.W. Seligman. These assets were managed by a combination of quantitative and fundamental analysis.


Hendra has an extensive involvement in the financial industry. It began with his tenure at Morgan Stanley - working in multi-currencies equity arbitrage, derivatives pricing and risk management tools for an equity derivatives desk that has been consistently ranked highest on the street¹.


He had worked in premier Foreign Exchange firms. First, as an Assistant Vice President at Deutsche Bank², and then as a Vice President at Bear Stearns mainly in their derivatives pricing and risk management area.


He honed his understanding in Fixed-Income while at General Re Financial Products, where he was Vice President in the firm's Research and Systems Group a team which members had won several awards³. Hendra mostly concentrated on Fixed-Income derivatives pricing and multi-assets enterprise global risk management.


Prior to being involved in Finance, Hendra worked in high-performance algorithms for the Supercomputers at IBM Watson Research Center. For his quality of work, IBM Research division awarded him PhD Fellowship⁴.


He was a PhD candidate in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Columbia University and graduated with Master in Computer Science from Columbia. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Northeastern University with concentration in computer architecture and Digital Signal Processing. He was inducted into Eta Kappa Nu, the honor society of Electrical Engineers.
